A perfect way to beat the heat this summer is to take a trip to the movies.
Two major action-packed films hit theaters this month which showcase the talents of incredible individuals from the Latino community.
Transformers: Rise of the Beats premiered in theaters June 9th, 2023, starring Nuyorican actor Anthony Ramos. Ramos plays a character by the name of "Noah Diaz" who finds himself in the middle of an epic intergalactic alien battle where the fate of the world lies in the hands of the heroic Optimus Prime and the Autobots.
Ramos has previously been cast in other major roles such as In the Heights and Trolls World Tour.
Another movie hitting the box office this summer is The Flash, released on June 14th.
The action-packed superhero film sees the likes of Batman, The Flash and Supergirl taking on villains who threaten world annihilation. The character Supergirl in particular is played by American actress Sasha Calle, who is of Colombian decent.
This would be Calle's first film role in a major motion picture. She is best known for her television role as "Lola Rosales" on the daytime soap opera The Young and the Restless, where she received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Younger Performer in a Drama Series.
Latinos continue to make waves at the box office as more individuals are being given roles in longstanding film franchises.
The trend where Latinos are required to settle for stereotypical parts is becoming a thing of the past and now, they get to be the heroes in the story.
