New reports confirm the next "Star Trek" film in the franchise will see a new director.

Variety reports that Latino director Roberto Orci is set to replace J.J. Abrams as the head of the Enterprise franchise, as Abrams puts his energies into directing the new "Star Wars" movie. Abrams won't be entirely cut out of the project as he will serve as a producer for "Star Trek 3."

HitFix reports Orci had been pursuing the position for some time as he has been writing the "Star Trek" sequel with J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay. This news comes hot off the heels that Orci split with his producing and writing partner Alex Kurtzman. Questions began to surface who would take lead on the next "Star Trek" film and now we know.

Kurtzman and Orci have teamed up for very successful and profitable projects such as the "Amazing Spider-Man" and the "Transformers" franchises. The duos TV production company will continue on. While Orci gets "Star Trek 3" Kurtzman is set to direct the Spider-Man spinoff "Venom."

There is no word yet on which actors will be returning for the next "Star Trek" film but we are sure to see Zachary Quinto and Chris Pine.
