It's still too early to determine how many people used Wikipedia in Spanish or what they searched for, but judging by the activity on Wikipedia in English, 2024 was a mix of deaths, crimes, and elections.
The most searched topic remains unchanged since 2015: deaths. This year, the specific term "Deaths in 2024" dominated, though the similarities end there.
According to the list published by the Wikimedia Foundation about the most viewed pages this year, the second most searched term was none other than U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris. In this ranking she surpassed her Republican rival Donald Trump, who defeated her in the presidential election last November.
Donald Trump was the fifth most searched term.
Other notable mentions included Trump's future Vice President, JD Vance; the 2020 presidential election; Joe Biden; Elon Musk (who will now enter politics as head of the Department of Government Efficiency alongside Vivek Ramaswamy); and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who ranked 7th, 13th, 17th, and 24th, respectively.

In fourth place, above the next U.S. president, were the Menendez brothers, fueled by Netflix's hit series 'Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.' Their story captivated audiences and spurred curiosity for more information.
A similar trend occurred with 'Griselda,' the Netflix miniseries starring Sofía Vergara and created by the team behind 'Narcos.' The series, which recounts the rise and fall of drug trafficker Griselda Blanco, drove many to her Wikipedia page to compare the dramatization with real events. Her profile garnered 13,491,792 views in 2024, ranking 21st on the list.
