It’s that time of the year in which Latin music is honored with the greatest award, the Latin Grammy. This year’s nominations were announced this morning, Wednesday, September 24, putting Calle 13’s Eduardo Cabra in the lead with 10, since he also produced on Jorge Drexler’s album, “Bailar En La Cueva,” up for a nomination. Together with his other musical half, René Pérez, Calle 13 as a group scored nine nods. Following the Puerto Rican duo was songwriter/producer Andrés Castro with eight nods, most of them for his work with Carlos Vives.
Tom Coyne, mastering engineer, scored seven nominations from multiple projects. Producer/songwriter Julio Reyes Copello and Carlos Vives followed with six; and Descember Bueno and Enrique Iglesias were nominated five times each, thanks to their hit “Bailando.” This was a major surprise, since Enrique Iglesias had never landed a nomination for this award show. Some of his nominations include Record of the Year and Best Urban Performance. The Latin Grammys will air November 20 at 8 p.m. ET on Univision. Scroll down to see all the nominees in the different categories.
