In 2013, game developer Naughty Dog created "The Last of Us," one of the rare gems in gaming that is good enough to be a movie. During Comic Con San Diego, we learned that Sony Entertainment is looking to do just that, as director Sam Raimi made the big feature film announcement during a press conference.
For movie fans that may not be aware of "The Last of Us" video game, the highly-acclaimed survival-horror game developed by Naughty Dog and Sony Entertainment follows the terrifying journey of Joel and Ellie, two survivors of a post-apocalyptic world of zombies that were infected by an awful fungus. Unfortunately, a cure did not exist.
"It's gonna be a great character journey, a great love story and great horror fiction," Raimi told the Comic-Con audience. Writer Neil Druckman is already hard at work crafting a worthy script that honors the groundbreaking video game. Now, we just need to find an awesome cast that can play the epic roles. According to the latest "Last of Us" rumors, Hugh Jackman and Maisie Williams, who plays Ayra Stark in "Game of Thrones," are the two front runners for the roles Joel and Ellie.
Druckman mentioned that Raimi and 17-year-old Maisie Williams were in talks about the movie, but nothing has been confirmed. Other potential actresses that could play Ellie include Ellen Page and Chloe Grace Moretz. Not only is Ellen Page a fine actor, but Page also lends striking physical resemblance to Ellie. Meanwhile, Choe's breakout role as Hit Girl in "Kick Ass" makes her closest to Ellie's personality.
Combine Hugh Jackman's Wolverine with a grizzled demeanor and you'll get a pretty good Joel. That said, aged action stars including Gerard Butler and Josh Brolin, as well as Michael Fassbender and Jon Hamm are strong contenders to play Joel.
Who do you believe is the most fit to play Joel and Ellie in "The Last of Us"? Is it Hugh Jackman and Maisie Williams? Is it someone else that we mentioned? Do you have someone in mind? Let us know in the comment section below!
