Las Vegas Tenant Locked Homeowner's Body in Freezer as Texts Suggest He Was Being Evicted: Police

A welfare check turned gruesome when Las Vegas police discovered 68-year-old Monique Gilbertson's body concealed inside a freezer in her own home.

Daniel Roush, who had been living at Gilbertson's property, has been indicted for murder. His wife, Gina Roush, faces charges of drug possession and burglary in connection with Gilbertson's death.

Body camera footage from the scene shows officers uncovering Gilbertson's remains during a detailed home search after suspicions were raised during the welfare check.

"I've been renting this property. I've been here since September," Roush told officers when confronted as reported by KVVU. He later claimed, "She has me house-sitting right now. I have paperwork that I'm supposed to be here," though text messages suggest a different story​​.

In October, Gilbertson sent Roush a text saying, "Good luck to you. I just can't live with anybody. I'm so sorry. The sooner you come, the sooner we can get this over with." Investigators believe these messages indicate she may have been attempting to evict Roush before her death​, according to KVVU.

When officers entered the home for the welfare check, they found the freezer locked and hidden beneath household items. A locksmith was called to open it, revealing Gilbertson's body inside. Police believe she had been in the freezer for at least four days​.

Footage obtained by KVVU shows one officer saying, "There's more than enough there" regarding evidence at the scene.

According to an arrest report, Gina Roush alleged that the couple provided Gilbertson with fentanyl to cause an overdose, though Daniel Roush offered conflicting statements about how he found her body​​.

Prosecutors are currently reviewing the case to see if it qualifies for the death penalty.
