If you have New York Giants Tight End, Larry Donnell, on your fantasy roster, our hats are off to you. If you played him in week four, you need an even bigger round of applause. Donnell quickly became one of the most added players in all of fantasy football this week after his 54-yard, three touchdown performance on Thursday Night Football against the Washington Redskins.
Donnell’s 30 point fantasy performance (in standard leagues), made him one of the top performers of the week, and those that started him one almost 76% of their matchups according to ESPN. However, there was one fantasy owner who lost their week 4 matchup because they had the Giants TE lying in wait on their bench, Larry Donnell himself.
Donnell admitted to the New Jersey paper, The Record that he benched himself during week 4 in favor of San Francisco 49ers tight end, Vernon Davis. The move turned out to be costly as Donnell lost his week 4 matchup and has fallen in his league standings. In comparison to Donnell’s monster fantasy night, Davis had two catches for eight yards, equating to a meager one fantasy point.
“I would’ve won if I played me,” Donnell said after practice on Wednesday. “During the game, I even kept saying to myself, ‘Really? Did I just do that?’ That’s the honest truth.”
Donnell’s team features quarterback Drew Brees, running back Frank Gore, and wide receivers Anquan Boldin and Mike Wallace. He lost his week 4 matchup by 15 points. Donnell now knows to bet on himself in the weeks to come as he said his performance against the Redskins was enough to promote himself into his own starting lineup ahead of Davis.
“Oh yeah, I’m in there,” said Donnell when asked if he would be starting himself this week.
