The number of homicides in Los Angeles is getting out of hand and the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is getting worried. The number of homicide cases has already reached 300 and 2020 isn’t even over yet. These numbers have already surpassed the numbers from 2019 pegged at 257.

"A number we have not seen in over a decade—300 homicides in a year," the LAPD posted in a tweet. "Senseless violence & tragic loss of life. "Our people are doing everything they can to stop the violence, but we need your help. If you have any info, report it. You can remain anonymous."

One reason behind the rising numbers is that people continue to struggle with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. People are getting restless and the social and economic fallout is evident.

Things don’t get any easier, especially if the latest case is to be considered. It involved the death of a 17-year-old boy who was simply riding his motorcycle near his house. Deputy Chief Emada E. Tingirides was left heartbroken by the murder of the teenager.

"It's has been a tragic weekend in Los Angeles to include the murder of a 17 year old riding his motorcycle close to his home," Tingirides tweeted.

"A Weekend like this creates Lasting Trauma in Communities. Praying for South Los Angeles," he added.

However, the rise in homicides and shooting incidents is not solely a problem that has occurred in Los Angeles. Louisville, Kentucky also saw a rise in murders in September, the most the city has recorded. A reason seen behind this is the Louisville Metro Police's inability to investigate each incident properly.

"It's basically to the point where we're not being able to provide victims' families the proper investigative services that we would like to, and it's really unfortunate," LMPD Lt. Donny Burbink said to CNN. "We're hoping that sooner or later, things start calming down so our victims' families can actually get some of the answers that they want."

Aside from shooting incidents and murders, robbery cases are also up over in Minneapolis. Cases of theft have increased by more than 50% since last year.
