After the Los Angeles Galaxy 3-0 victory over Toronto FC last night, Landon Donovan took a moment to reflect on his illustrious career. One of soccer’s greatest all time players had just surpassed Steve Ralston for the MLS all-time assists record to go along with his all-time goals scored record. His team is in first place in the Western Conference, and he is about to play his final game for the United States Men’s National team.

“I think this week I’m going to have a chance to relax ad enjoy this in a different way than I have in the past.”

Donovan will retire from the sport at the end of the 2014 MLS season and will do so as the most decorated athlete in MLS history. Donovan got his 136th assist thanks to Galaxy forward, Robbie Keane’s second goal of the night. In fact, a lot of Donovan’s league-leading 19 assists have been scored by Keane.

“He’s been terrific and we’re really fortunate to have him on our team. I said last week that there is not a player in this league who scores the goals that he scores, and his second goal (that got Donovan the record) was a difficult one, too… It was clean, it was clinical,” said Donovan.

Watch Donovan’s post-game interview below and see how he felt about the record breaking assist as well as how he feels about his emotional final few games of his career.
