A proper British icon that has enjoyed many decades of fame, Land Rover has declared that the next rugged Defender off-road vehicle will be slated for U.S. release.
According to thecarconnection.com, Jaguar-Land Rover North America CEO Andy Goss had confirmed that the next-generation Defender will be a truly global product, specifically engineered to perform well in U.S. crash safety tests and emission regulations.
Beyond the next Defender, execs from Jaguar-Land Rover also confirmed during the 2012 Paris Motor Show that the brand intends to significantly expand its Land Rover offerings. This suggests either a wider variety of powertrain or trim options, or possibly even a wider range of available models.
Finally, industry observers expect the aging Disco-LR4 to receive a major overhaul or redesign in the very near future.
Details regarding the next generation of Land Rover vehicles are very limited for the time being. Judging from the near production-ready DC100 concept unveiled during the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, we expect the next generation Defender to share very similar proportions as well as a similar design language. Stay tuned as we continue to hear more from Land Rover.
