The Los Angeles Lakers need help and several players have yet to provide that this season. But it appears that they may get the needed bench support soon.
According to SB Nation editorial manager Harrison Faigen, Dennis Schroder, Thomas Bryant and Kendrick Nunn was assigned to the South Bay Lakers for practice and scrimmage.
However, the scribe also added that these three players will also be recalled to Los Angeles later today after practice. This hints that all three could be preparing to play soon for the embattled franchise.
The decision to place the players in the G League does make sense. The Lakers are not practicing on Tuesday, Nov. 15.
Bryant and Schroder are recovering from UCL injuries so assigning them to South Bay could help gauge if both cagers are ready to suit up and provide help for the Lakers.
Los Angeles is scheduled to face the Detroit Pistons next on Friday, Nov. 18, at the Crypto.com arena with tip-off set at 10:30 p.m. E.T.
And while assigning Schroder and Thomas makes sense, the same cannot be said about Kendrick Nunn. He has been healthy compared to last season but has been performing below par.
In 11 games, two of which he started, Nunn is averaging 4.7 points in 13.5 minutes per game.
Hence, the decision to move him to the G League could be a means to help the 27-year-old recall his old form. Nunn will have a tough road back to reclaiming a spot on the rotation of head coach Darvin Ham, something he needs to do to stay on the Lakers’ roster.
The Lakers need all the help they can get with LeBron James sidelined due to a left adductor strain he incurred in their game against the Los Angeles Clippers.
He is listed as day-to-day although Ham suggests the four-time NBA champion could be back against the Pistons if he is stronger and cleared to return to active duty, ESPN reported.
“If it’s Friday against Detroit, next Friday. We can feel good about that, knowing that means that these days, the rested to not put any pressure on it, but strengthen it and, you know, treat it to get him to the point where he’s able to get back out there,” Ham said.
