There was a popular rumor that went the rounds. Fans went into a tizzy after speculating that Lady Gaga keeps her Grammys on an IKEA Shelf.
Throwing in a bit of context, Lady Gaga previously gave followers a peek into her awards by posting a picture of herself on Instagram. Needless to say, the post amassed millions of likes.
Things seemed pretty normal, however, until a volley of fans made a common observation on the celebrity’s picture, which eventually led to a very interesting question: does Lady Gaga keep her Grammys on an IKEA Billy bookcase?
A volley of users believed that Gaga’s shelf bore an uncanny similarity to IKEA’s GERSBY bookcase, so much so that speculations ran amok about how Gaga is a thrifty celeb who keeps her prized awards in an IKEA bookcase.
But a news portal was quick to put the assumptions to rest and reached out to the recording academy for clarity. Turns out, as per the report, the dimensions of a Grammy are 5 7/8" deep. And the dimensions of the GERSBY are 9 1/2" deep.
So ideally, if the awards were really placed in a GERSBY, the ample space would’ve been visible. But it clearly isn’t the case. Taking things a step further, an IKEA representative gave fans the closure they were on the lookout for. The staff maintained that Gaga’s shelf is indeed too shallow and doesn’t really sync with IKEA’s designs.
The clarifications from the staffer made things clear: Gaga’s Grammys aren’t tucked away in a thrifty GERSBY bookcase. Maybe she does have a GERSBY, but that’s a story for another day.
It can be said that Gaga is one of the most influential pop icons today. Her net worth amounts to a whopping $300 million. The figures make sense, going by how two of her tours alone, “Born This Way Ball” (2012-13) and “Artpop” (2014), raked in $ 382.3 million and $257 million, respectively.
And the best part? Activism and philanthropy occupy the top spots on her priority list as the icon is known for donating millions of dollars to various charitable initiatives.
