First, Kimora Lee Simmons coined the term "Fabulosity" to define a lavish lifestyle all about looking sexy, having the best things and loving yourself while looking fabulous. Most recently, Caress, the beauty brand known for products that give women gorgeous skin that they will want to flaunt, introduced the term "Fabulista," to describe the hottest beauty and style experts known for flaunting what is fabulous.
Although all that "fabulousness" might seem a little out of reach for us, normal people, the new Caress Fabulista, La La Anthony says that it's all about feeling confident in your skin, and not overdoing the crazy measures we might take to look beautiful and at the top of our game all the time.
"You don't have to go overboard. Simple eyeliner, lip gloss and blush can go a long way," she said when she took a moment of her very busy schedule to sit down with Latin Times for an exclusive interview.
About landing this exclusive deal with Caress, La La was more than thrilled. "I'm so honored to be even looked at as a 'fabulista,' and to be using fragrances to inspire women. I specifically love Caress' 'Tempting Whisper' and what's great about it is that it's light, it smells good and it's a great scent. Anything I put my name behind, I really, truly believe in, and this is a product that I use, that I love and I'm always the kind of person that likes to share my beauty secrets with the people and this is definitely one of them." She is also revealing more secrets in the official Caress Facebook page, where she posts advice, tips and how-to's to help girls feel beautiful and empowered.
La La, born in Brooklyn and from Puerto Rican descent, is a hot Latina that has made her way through radio, television and now the cosmetics industry, never forgetting her duties as a mother and as a wife.
Although many may know her as the wife of basketball player Carmelo Anthony and star of the VH1 reality documentary that showcased the road to their wedding in 2010 after a 6-year engagement, "La La's Full Court Wedding," La La is much more than a "Basketball Wife."
She started as a programming assistant at a radio station in Atlanta, later moving to DC to go to school and landing a job as the campus radio station's disk jockey. She relocated to LA, again working in radio, where she was noticed by MTV.
With the music network, she was the co-host of "Direct Effect" and "Total Request Live." She has also hosted the reunion specials for all seasons of VH1's "Flavor of Love," both seasons of "I Love New York," the first season of "Real Chance of Love," the first season of "Flavor of Love Girls: Charm School" and "For the Love of Ray J." In addition, she often introduced stories on MTV's "High School Stories" and she appeared as a dean on VH1's "Charm School with Ricki Lake."
Currently, you can see her on TV on "La La's Full Court Life," a spin-off of her wedding special that follow's La La and Carmelo's married life and how they balance their careers with parenthood.
"It's hard sometimes to find that balance between being a mom, having a career and being a wife, but you have to prioritize." La La said. "I'm lucky to have my son travel with me, and be able to come to work with me, so he can be involved in what I'm doing. He's my top priority and I always make time for him no matter how tired I am, no matter what's going on, and I always make sure that we do fun things in our time together."
La La didn't stop after landing her TV gig. She's also appeared on many movies, showcasing her acting abilities. However, that wasn't enough for her, and as an ambitious woman, she was looking for new career ventures to expand her name in more than just the big and small screen, and saw and opportunity in the cosmetics industry.
"I just love makeup, you know? And I felt there was a void in the makeup industry for foundation and colors for all shades. I felt like a lot of them stopped at a certain color, so I wanted to have a collection that covered all colors of foundation, eye shadow and everything like that, so I'm really proud of my makeup line 'Motives by La La,' and it's doing really, really well," she said.
When we asked her about the transition from the media to the cosmetics industry, she said that it was something meant to happen. "It's just a natural evolution. I really was a tomboy growing up, and over time I just got more into fashion and beauty by looking at magazines and women looking fabulous and I wanted to be like them. But it wasn't until my MTV days when I started to pay more attention to how I looked and began trying some of the things that were going on in fashion and beauty."
Nowadays La La just keeps it simple by following an old beauty trick. "For me it's just the old basic 'drink a lot of water,'" she confessed. "I try to keep myself hydrated, I try to keep myself feeling good in that way. There's no magic product that's going to make you feel a certain way so I stick to the old school tricks that work. Just stay hydrated, and that's going to help you take care of your skin."
Although water, and using her makeup line, which happens to be mineral based, helping the skin maintain its natural glow and preventing damage, she also noted that it's very important to remove your make up before going to bed. "Sleeping with your makeup is one of the worst things you could do," she added. To sum it up, she gave the best beauty tip there is, proving once more, that it works after taking a look to her face. "Less is more. My mom's always taught me that. Don't go overboard with things. Make sure to stay hydrated, take your make up off, wash your face and use a good moisturizer."
If you want to continue your path to look as beautiful as La La, you have to be confident in yourself. "When you feel good it translates into how you look," she said. But a little help from Caress also comes in handy. The TV personality and entrepreneur said that she loves when people stop her to ask about her scent, thinking it's a perfume, but it's actually "Tempting Whispers." "It's just a great confidence and self-esteem booster when you have people wanting to know what you are wearing that's making you smell so good," adding that it has a long lasting scent that's not too strong and she uses it in her morning and evening showers.
