Netflix’s top-rated Korean zombie series “Kingdom” is set to return for its second run next month and the buzz is already on. With the first season debuting to critical acclaim last year, the hype surrounding the upcoming season is not surprising, especially now that Netflix has already dropped a new trailer for the season 2 premiere. Here are some quick facts about “Kingdom” season 2 you shouldn’t miss:
Cast
The original cast members of season 1, including Joo Ji Hun, Bae Doo Na, and Ryu Seung Ryong are set to reprise their roles next season. Earlier this month, the three actors attended their first script reading for season 2, where they were joined by new cast members Park Byung Eun and Kim Tae Hoon.
Production
Long before Netflix announced the renewal of the series earlier this month, production on “Kingdom” season 2 had already been underway. The cast reportedly started shooting their scenes for season 2 in February 2019 and the production wrapped in June last year.
Plot
With just a few weeks left before “Kingdom” returns, Netflix has been actively dropping hints about the plot of the new season here and there. Earlier this year, the streaming giant dropped a violent new trailer for “Kingdom” season 2, showing the woes of Crown Prince Yi Chang as he and his league struggle against the undead. The trailer also hints that the prince will face a political dilemma in the kingdom following the rebellion of Minister Cho Hak-ju, who, in season 1, took advantage of supernatural powers to carry out his selfish plans.
In season 2, the crown prince will continue fighting to save his country. It can be recalled that the he started this quest in season 1 after a strange plague started to claim the lives of his people.
The synopsis for the series reads, “In a kingdom defeated by corruption and famine, a mysterious rumor of the king’s death spreads, as does a strange plague that renders the infected immune to death and hungry for flesh. The crown prince, fallen victim to a conspiracy, sets out on a journey to unveil the evil scheme and save his people.”
“Kingdom” season 2 will premiere on March 13 on Netflix.
