Today, Apple announced it's latest generation to the iPad family - the iPad mini.
The iPad mini comes in two colors - black 7 slate and white & silver.
In addition to the iPad mini with Wi-Fi, Apple also introduced the device with Wi-Fi and cellular data.
According to Apple, the iPad mini "supports fast cellular networks around the world - including LTE networks." The iPad mini with cellular data will be available on at&t, Sprint, and Verizon's networks.
"When you decide to activate data service, you can choose the amount of data per month you want to buy - with no long-term contract," Apple said on its website. "So if you have a business trip or vacation approaching, just sign up for the month you'll be traveling and cancel when you get back."
The iPad mini weighs 0.68 pounds, is 7.78 inches tall and 5.3 inches wide. Like all other Apple products, the iPad mini can store up to 64GB of memory.
The iPad mini is 23 percent thinner and 53 percent lighter than the third generation iPad and features a 7.9-inch Multi-Touch display, FaceTime HD and iSight cameras, wireless performance. The iPad mini is expected to have 10 hours of battery life. It has a 1024X768 resolution and works on Apple's A5 processor.
The iPad mini costs - Wi-Fi: $329 (16GB), $429 (32GB) and $529 (64GB). Cellular: $459 (16GB), $559 (32GB), $659 (64GB).
Last month, Amazon introduced its Kindle Fire HD.
The tablet features a 1280x800 HD display is the "world's first tablet with dual-band, dual-antenna Wi-Fi for 40 percent faster downloads and streaming compared to Apple's latest iPad."
According to Consumer Reports, the Kindle Fire HD's screen is among the easiest to read in bright light but still a little behind the third-generation iPad screen, which has the highest color accuracy that was measured on a tablet.
The Kindle has a high performance 1.2 Ghz dual-core processor with Imagination PowerVR 3D graphics core for fast and fluid performance.
Consumer Reports said that the Kindle Fire HD is among the best 7-inch tablets on the market. with its long battery life and reasonable price tag.
The Kindle Fire HD holds up to 32 GB of storage and costs $199 (16GB), $249 (32GB).
If you're opting to get the Kindle Fire HD, remember to get an all too important part - the charger. The tablet ships without a charger, which appears as a $9.99 optional extra on the ordering page or a $19.99 accessory when ordered separately. The iPad ships with its charger at no extra cost.
But even with its shortfalls, Consumer Reports said the Kindle Fire HD "shows every sign of being a very worthy tablet."
Amazon's device woks on a Custom Android OS operating system and is available in dark grey.
