Sofia Vergara is one of the most loved actresses in television thanks to her hilarious role of Gloria on "Modern Family." This is the project that catapulted her in the entertainment industry and global stardom. Her big success on the small screen paved her way to open her own production company and one of her first as a producer was the adaptation of "Mujeres Asesinas." The Argentine series was a hit in its home country and a bigger hit when it was adapted in Mexico, drawing record numbers for three seasons. Based on the success, Vergara bought the rights to adapt for the U.S. audience and the results have been less than stellar.
The debut of "Killer Women" registered a 0.9 in adults 18-49, which was down 31 percent from the premiere of the now cancelled series "Lucky 7" that held the same time slot in the fall. On its second outing the series produced by Vergara was down 22 percent when it hit 0.7 in the 18-49 demo. This was the same rating that "The Assets" scored and based on that was pulled from ABC's programming. An announcement of the procedural should be coming out soon and the news is not going to be good for the series. Cancellation should soon follow, but what can ABC replace the show with? "Shark Tank" filled in "The Assets" slot but it will be overkill to have two airings of the same show, even though it performs well.
What does this mean for Sofia Vergara and her production company? Let's hope this doesn't put a stop to more shows produced by the comedic actress as she tend to look for projects in Latin America. We believe the adaptation for "Killer Women" was not the best and it was a major contrast to the original concept. The Latin versions of the show was darker and grittier, while the American version was light and campy. The Mexican version also attracted and featured top notch celebrities to play the "killer" roles and had every week there was a lot of buzz around these actresses. It's possibly too late to fix "Killer Women" but it will serve as an experience on what not to do with a show.
