A cat killer is suspected to be loose after this mysterious person decapitated one of three felines for just eight days.
The cats were all killed in the peaceful village of Sharnford, Leicestershire, near St Helen's Church.
Authorities discovered the most recent decapitated cat on Saturday, April 17, the third in eight days since April 9.
Officials told the residents of Sharnford, a 1,000-person village in Leicestershire, to keep their pets indoors at night while police investigate what's going on.
"There is quite a lot of alarm about this in the village at the moment," a spokesman for Sharnford Parish Council told LeicestershireLive.
The spokesperson believed these injuries do not seem to come from road accidents. Instead, somebody deliberately inflicted these.
Sharnford Parish Council said one of the cat's owners came from Sapcote. The official said it is unlikely that the cat made it this far itself. So officials thought someone brought it here.
Police are investigating the deaths in the small rural village, about 11 miles south of Leicester.
Leicestershire Police reported that officers have been informed of several similar incidents in the area.
"It is hard to believe these incidents are a coincidence and we all hope that the police [can] find whoever is responsible and stop them doing it as soon as possible," officials said.
Leicestershire Police is asking anyone with details to contact them on 101.
It can be difficult to confront animal cruelty, but the cats need your support. Alley Cat Allies, a non-profit animal rescue organization, has given some tips that you can use.
The first move is to contact the police and file a formal report. Whether or not you know who is to blame, it is important to notify the local authorities that a crime has occurred.
You must then record the proof in the second phase. It would help if you take photos and record all of the facts you find, no matter how difficult it is, to provide proof to the police for their report.
Third, take the cat to a veterinarian right away if it is hurt and needs medical attention.
Obtain a necropsy on your fourth step as soon as possible if a cat died. A necropsy is an autopsy conducted on animals to determine the precise cause of death. It's essential to get a necropsy done as soon as possible so that no proof is lost.
If a cat you care for has been hurt, you should consider hiring a lawyer for your fifth step. A lawyer will advise you on whether or not to pursue any legal action.
Sixth step is you should make an effort to connect with people in your neighborhood. Put up posters or leaflets in your neighborhood to let people know that cats have been hurt or killed, that this is a crime, and that someone is looking out for the cats' well-being.
Follow our recommendations for dealing with aggressive threats to animals, such as installing a video camera to record any activity and posting signs, to protect the remaining cats.
