Yesterday Fox announced the return of Kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer for the revival of “24” which will now be called “24: Live Another Day.” The new series has been set to premiere May 5 with a two-hour opening at 8 p.m. The following week, “24: Live Another Day” will take its normal timeslot at Monday 9 p.m. Besides Sutherland reprising his role as Jack Bauer, series alums mary Lynn Rajskub (Chloe O’Brian), Kim Raver (Audrey Raines) an William Devane (James Heller) will all return for the new season.
It has also been revealed Yvonne Starhovsi (“Chuck” and “Dexter”) will be part of the cast of the new “24.” Also joining the cast this season are Giles Matthey (“Jobs”), Gbenha Akinnagbe (The Wire”), Michael Wincott (“The Crow”) and Golden Globe winner and Academy Award nominee Judy Davis. The producers of the new show announced that while the series will only be 12 episodes, it will still take place over a 24-hour period and each episode will still take place within one hour. Confused? Well don’t be with each episode the show will jump ahead a couple of hours to make up the difference.
Executive producer Howard Gordon and Kiefer Sutherland have both dished on some details about the upcoming season, particularly about Jack and Chloe. Sutherland notes, “At the very beginning of this series, they are actually pitted against each other. It’s also something that’s going to evolve over the course of the show. A past loyalty that is potentially going to be betrayed, that’s a lot of meat, so it’s a great opportunity for us now. A lot of the dynamics of the characters that are coming back have been changed.” While Gordon elaborates Chloe was, “Not just his trusty sidekick and most trusted friend, but someone who has been quite damaged. She has now joined the free information movement.”
Manny Coto also revealed some details regarding Yvonne Starhovski’s character, saying, “We pick up four years later and Jack is still a fugitive. He has disappeared and he is still hunted. Yvonne Strahovski is aCIA agent who has been on the hunt for Jack Bauer. In their minds, Jack is not quite Osama bin Laden, but he is a fugitive of high order. When Jack enters the story on his own terms, we will learn he has a mission.” Coto said it remained to be seen if this was a “good” or “dark” mission. Coto added, “Chloe will enter the picture and we will learn she has been damaged over these four years and does not work for CTU. She’s a more radical, Snowden-like character.”
We don’t know about you but we’re excited for “24: Live Another Day” and cannot wait for the premiere! Some of the cast however see it a little differently. Sutherland opens up about his fear returning to “24” reprising his role as Jack Bauer. “There was always something we all wished was better, but we were very proud of this show. To open it up again and to not make the best 12 episodes we’ve ever made is frightening. I won’t lie to you,” Sutherland admits. “To not give them the best that we have to offer would be very disappointing. Until we start shooting, everything is intangible.”
