Perhaps John Mayer, 35, is growing up. After a string of Hollywood girlfriends that reads like a Maxim hot list: Jennifer Aniston, Jessica Simpson, Minka Kelly, Taylor Swift and Jennifer Love Hewitt -- it seemed like, for a brief moment at least, that perhaps Mayer had met his love match with Katy Perry.
The two had been hot and heavy in the last few months, showing up at award shows hand-in-hand, sharing time on the holidays, and caught in candid photos frolicking in Los Angeles.
But not all fairy tales end well. When they split, it wasn't so much of a surprise -- they were a Hollywood couple after all -- but it was rather sudden. And surprisingly Mayer, who is known to comment on his relationships without filter, remained silent on the entire thing -- until now.
He finally divulged a little bit of post-breakup wisdom on "The Ellen Degeneres Show."
"It was a very private relationship going in, it was a very private relationship during, and it's a private relationship still,"he said. "I'm on the same journey as everyone else. Coupling is a tricky thing."
It seems love isn't the only vice Mayer is holding off on. The guitar playing crooner recently underwent throat surgery to repair his vocal cords.
"I really loved, loved, loved scotch ... [but] it's just like applying a shellac of poison. It's just a delicious, wonderful poison," he explained. "I had to really dial it down. And I'm a little more boring now."
