Kate Middleton appeared to look moody while at the Trooping the Colour earlier this month. Photos of her while on board a carriage circulated online.

On June 8, Kate sat beside Camilla Parker Bowles on the carriage. The Duchess of Cornwall was smiling from ear to ear while waving to the crowd. In front of them and in the same carriage were Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. The royal couple also looked very happy to be at the event.

But Kate’s facial expression was the one that captured the attention of royal watchers. The mom of three smiled for a few seconds and went back to looking upset. A royal source said that this was because Prince William’s wife was suffering from motion sickness.

“The truth is the Duchess of Cambridge gets very seasick and doesn’t enjoy the rocking motion of carriages,” the source said. “Worrying she may be ill on such an important occasion as Trooping the Colour added to her stress,” the source added.

Unfortunately for Kate Middleton, she had no choice but to follow the royal protocol of going to the event via a state carriage. Prince William, on the other hand, arrived at Buckingham Palace on his own horse.

Dr. Qadeer Arshad from Imperial College London said that morning sickness is caused by the mixed messages coming from the ears and eyes. “The most effective drug makes you drowsy so it wouldn’t be suitable for royals before a state occasion,” he said.

The expert said that they are currently developing a more suitable cure for motion sickness. “We’ve developed a technique using electricity to stimulate parts of the brain to ease symptoms,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Duchess of Cambridge is not the only member of the royal family who has an uncomfortable experience while riding a horse-drawn carriage. Last year, Queen Elizabeth II revealed that her 1953 coronation also made her feel uncomfortable.

Her Majesty called the two-hour journey in a 200-year-old carriage pulled by eight horses horrible. She also said that the carriage was only sprung on leather and was not very comfortable.
