Most brides would probably feel like floating on cloud nine as their wedding day approaches. But for Kate Middleton, the days leading up to her wedding to Prince William were marred by one depressing detail.
In fact, the Duchess of Cambridge reportedly cried in those days, and not all of them were exactly tears of joy. The reason for that tiny bit of frustration tainting her otherwise perfect big day was an unexpected leakage of a secret that she has been guarding closely the entire time, according to a report by Honey.
Back then, fans were endlessly speculating on who would design Kate’s wedding dress and what the dress would look like. Perhaps the duchess was just excited with the idea of surprising everyone by only revealing her dress on the actual wedding day itself.
But then all those plans went puff when the press somehow got wind of one important detail about the dress. It was revealed that it would be designed by no less than Alexander McQueen's Sarah Burton.
While Burton tried to deny her involvement in Kate and William’s wedding, fans were somehow already convinced. “Behind the scenes I think that caused tears at the Palace because Kate had done everything she could to keep the wedding dress a secret,” said Katie Nicholl, royal family expert, in the “Secrets Of The Royal Dressmakers” documentary.
Thankfully, not everything about the dress was leaked. For instance, people were still left wondering what the actual dress might look like despite knowing in advance who its designer was.
And when the big day arrived, people were still shocked. Its exquisite design, the resulting flattering silhouette and the undeniable attention to detail put into its creation wowed even fashion critics.
Kate’s wedding dress was indeed a one-of-a-kind creation, albeit done in utmost secrecy. In fact, it was revealed that even the dressmakers who made the gown were all sworn to secrecy.
“We had net curtains up and cleaners were not allowed into the room and the code on the door was changed,” dressmaker Mandy Ewing revealed in an interview.
