We have a new Latina making her debut on the American small screen. Karla Souza was cast next to Viola Davis in the new Shonda Rhimes thriller, “How To Get Away With Murder,” set to premiere this fall on ABC. The Mexican actress, who studied at the prestigious Central School of Speech and Drama, in London, England, is no stranger to the cameras. She has done a few TV projects such as "Terminales," "Verano de amor," "Los héroes del norte," "Niño santo" and "La clínica." She has also been in the movies "From Prada to nada," "Me late chocolate," "Suave Patria," “Nosotros los Nobles” by Gary Alazraki and “Instructions Not Included” by Eugenio Derbez.
“How To Get Away With Murder” will be produced by Rhimes and Betsy Beers and written by Peter Nowalk (Grey’s Anatomy). It revolves around elite law school students who get caught up in a real-life murder case. According to IndieWire, the show is described as a “sexy, suspense legal thriller that follows a brilliant criminal defense attorney (Viola Davis) and her ambitious law school students who become entangled in a murder mystery that could have major ramifications on their entire university as well as change the course of their lives.”
Karla will be Laurel Castillo, one of those students guided by Davis’ character, Annalise Keating. “I feel very honored to have been chosen amongst all the other women who auditioned for the role,” Souza said in a press release. “To be able to be a part of Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers’ team and a network like ABC is an accomplishment any actor dreams to have.” Souza also opened up about working with two-time Oscar nominee Viola Davis, and called it “a great challenge.” Sharing screen credits with Souza are Aja Naomi King, Matt McGorry, Alfred Enoch, Jack Falahee and Charlie Weber.
