A video circulating online of a University of Kansas staff member violently denouncing men who wouldn't vote for a female presidential candidate has resulted in the staff member being placed on administrative leave.
"(If you think) guys are smarter than girls, you've got some serious problems," said the staff member in the video, later identified as Phil Lowcock. "That's what frustrates me. There are going to be some males in our society that will refuse to vote for a potential female president because they don't think females are smart enough to be president. We could line all those guys up and shoot them. They clearly don't understand the way the world works."
"Did I say that? Scratch that from the recording. I don't want the deans hearing that I said that," Lowcock continued.
The University of Kansas posted a statement to X (formerly Twitter) acknowledging the incident.
"The instructor offers his sincerest apologies and deeply regrets the situation. His intent was to emphasize his advocacy for women's rights and equality, and he recognizes he did a very poor job of doing so," read the statement. "The university has an established process for situations like this and will follow that process."
In addition to this, students were notified that Lowcock's class on Wednesday would be canceled via email. His staff profile page on the KU Athletics website was also taken down, reported the Lawrence Times.
Lowcock's comments have also earned the attention of prominent lawmakers. Kansas Sen. Robert Marshall took to X to discuss the incident, calling for Lowcock's "swift termination".
"Disturbing video from a @UnivOfKansas professor. Anyone saying men who don't vote for Kamala Harris should be 'lined up and shot' is deranged and shouldn't be around students nor academia," wrote Sen. Marshall. "I trust that the @UnivOfKansas will take immediate action and fire this professor."
