Justin Timberlake will release his first new music in six years Monday, Jan. 14. Or so the multi-talented musician/actor seems to be suggesting recently.
Wednesday Timberlake sent a cryptic message to fans on Twitter hinting that something big was coming from the singer soon. "Thursday, January 10th, 2013 at 9:01 am PST," Timberlake ominously tweeted.
At that time Thursday Timberlake made another enigmatic announcement in a teasing video on his website.
"I've only done two albums in 10 years, that's the way I really look at it," Timberlake explains in the video.
"What does the next decade mean for me? I'm the one who sits and is obsessive about it before you even get to hear it. As close as I get to it, I don't know that I could physically torture myself that much year-in and year-out and expect it to fulfill me the way that it does and the way that it is right now," he says.
"I don't want to put anything out that I feel like is something I don't love. You just don't get that every day. You have to wait for it," Timberlake says as he walks through the back halls of a recording studio in the clip.
Timberlake then walks into a recording booth, and positions himself in front of a microphone. "I'm ready," he says.
The video stops, fades to black, and a countdown clock appears in its place, ticking down the seconds until Monday when presumably something will happen. Just what the clock is counting down to remains to be seen.
Of course, as The Huffington Post notes, Timberlake could also be talking about a collaboration with his pet-project MySpace. The musician invested in the company in 2012, and MySpace sent out a press release for an event Jan. 16 to reveal some of the site's new features. The countdown on Timberlake's site ends at Midnight Sunday night though, so, we're betting against that.
Widespread speculation firmly believes Timberlake is set to drop an entire new album's worth of tunes on unsuspecting listeners Monday. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Timberlake has recorded a full album - around 20 new tracks - produced by longtime collaborator Timbaland, and both the Hollywood Reporter and Billboard cite sources who claim that his album will be out "sooner rather than later." Florida's Radio Now 97.9 also teased the idea of new music from Timberlake with Jay-Z and Beyonce, according to the Huffington Post.
Justin Beiber seemed to slyly confirm news of new music from Timberlake via Twitter. "u got a good reason to be ready," Bieber tweeted. "i have heard some stuff ... #greatmusic."
The "Baby" singer also confirmed that Timberlake had been collaborating again with Timbaland, according to The Guardian.
Timberlake hasn't released a record since 2006's ubiquitous "FutureSex/LoveSounds," which has been certified four-times platinum in the U.S. and has sold more than 20 million copies worldwide.
