Julio Maharbiz, the Argentinian conductor, has died at the age of 77. "He died in his hous in peace and surrounded by his affections," his son Martin told the Argentine press agency Terra, after his father's passing on Wednesday.

Tarrago Ros called him "[the man] from whom the Inca regained the national cinema and took it to the highest level." Maharbiz was well-known in Argentina for the films "Argentinisima" and its sequel, "Argentinisima II" in the 1970s.

Beginning in 1963, he was the emcee for the renowned "Festival of Cosquin", a folklore festival in Argentina. He helmed the podium at the event until 2001.

Julio Maharbiz' career brought him to work in radio as well, as both on-air talent and director at 98.7, the Radio Nacional Folclorica.

Maharbiz was born in Cordoba, Argentina on July 6, 1935. He began his career in radio in 1956 with Radio Portena. He later helped publicize the Festival of Cosquin in the 1960s, and eventually transitioned to film, producing the "Argentinisima" films the following decade. He later became the director of the National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts in Argentina.
