With more than five active decades in the music industry, it's a given on why Julio Iglesias received an honorary degree from Berklee College of Music. After receiving an honorary doctorate degree of music from the Boston school at its commencement ceremony over the weekend, it's now safe to call him Dr. Iglesias! The Spanish crooner, who has sold over 300 million records globally and can sing in 14 languages, was honored for his contributions to American and international culture.
"I'm an artist who has sang in different languages, in a lot of different languages, and the most beautiful thing that has happened in my life as an artist is this honor from Berklee," the 71-year-old artist said at the ceremony, according to Hola.
Iglesias, known to the younger generation as Enrique Iglesias' dad, has been delighting fans with his romantic ballads since as early as the '60s. He's responsible of classic hits such as “La Vida Sigue Igual” and “Hey!,” amongst many others. He also has awesome duets with artists such as Willie Nelson and Diana Ross.
Iglesias joined Sony Music Entertainment CEO Doug Morris, drummer Harvey Mason, and Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Dee Dee Bridgewater, who all also received honorary doctorate degrees from the reputed music school.
