Singer Melissa, also known as “La Princesa de la Banda” and “La Barbie Grupera” is in the middle of a huge scandal after militia members in the state of Michoacán, Mexico began digging into her past and her family and found out she is the daughter of Enrique “El Kike” Plancarte Solís, a high-ranking leader of the Knights Templar drug cartel.
After a few days of public scrutiny, Melissa finally spoke releasing a statement on her Facebook account. “Regarding my father, I naturally love him, but I am not the one to judge him nor I am responsible for his acts, and I am not the one to blame. I'm totally oblivious to the situations that people are linking me with. My world, my dream and my passion is music and I have been devoted to it for a while, at the same time I focus on my studies. My career can not be tainted by events that I don’t take part in.”
And it seems that anyone who had any contact with Melissa is being linked to drug cartels. Just ask Cuban born actor Julio Camejo, who was featured in one of the singer’s music videos “Desde que te fuiste,” and now is being said that he did it because he had some sort of connection to the cartels. Camejo is currently going through a personal tragedy since his dad lost his battle to cancer just a few days ago before the whole cartel scandal blew up, so he wasn’t available for comment.
However, his manager Karina Lejía, spoke to Mexican newspaper “El Universal” and denied any accusations. “Julio Camejo is only hired when us, Mogul Producciones and Julio Camejo, reach an economic agreement, and if we like it, we close the deal. We never investigate family matters, genealogical trees or anything like that. We only knew she was a grupera singer who was heard a lot in the North. Now, if the girl is the daughter of a drug lord, the truth is we never knew. It’s not the things that we investigate,” she said.
