The White House reports that Julia Pierson will be appointed to lead the Secret Service. President Barack Obama named the 53-year-old agent as the new leader of the security force. She will be the first female to lead the Secret Service.
The Washington Post reports that Obama may have chosen Pierson because of the "masculine culture" of the Secret Service in recent years. In 2012, a number of Secret Service agents were caught with prostitutes in their Colombian hotel room prior to the president's arrival.
Julia Pierson, who needs no Senate confirmation unlike recent designates such as CIA Director John Brennan, began her Secret Service career over 30 years ago in Miami, Fla. She recently served as Assistant Director under former Director Mark Sullivan.
