Disney Media Distribution Latin America announced they were bringing the life of Juan Gabriel to the small screen with “Hasta que te conocí,” a mini-series that will tell the story of how “El Divo de Juárez” became a Mexican icon by defying destiny, and struggling with poverty, treason, and prejudice. But, who will be the lucky actor to take the role of one of the most beloved singer-songwriters the Mexican audience, and the world, has ever seen?
Colombian actor Julián Román has been selected to portray JuanGa in the awaited 13-episode TV show about the singer’s life and rise to fame, and he is reportedly already in Mexico City shooting the first scenes. According to TVyNovelas, the 38-year-old Bogotá native has already embodied all of the crooner’s mannerisms, and interestingly enough, was chosen by Juan Gabriel himself to take the lead.
Román has worked in theatre, television and film in his native Colombia and his most recent TV project was “La Viuda Negra,” co-starring Ana Serradilla, who has been romantically linked to the actor. Scroll down to see the first images of Julián Román as “El Divo de Juárez.”
