A lot of speculation has been going around about the health of one of the biggest Latin American music idols. Juan Gabriel was hospitalized about a week ago at the Southern Hills Hospital of Las Vegas with pneumonia. Apparently Juan Gabriel had been feeling sick since his show in New York on April 6, but he didn’t want to cancel any of his concerts so he decided to power through. He left the hospital before the date the doctors had recommended and on April 19, he was readmitted to the hospital.
Rumors began circulating that he was in the ICU, that he was presenting heart problems and that his condition was extremely delicate. However, his former manager and close family friend, Silvia Urquidi, said Juan Gabriel returned to the hospital for a minor check-up. “Yes, he was released and then re-admitted. He didn’t feel too good. I spoke to his wife and he’s not as bad as people say he is. He’s not in the ICU, doctors are simply checking his condition.”
“He felt week, so Iván [his son] took the decision to go back to the hospital,” Urquidi concluded. As for his condition now, Juan Manuel Navarro from Televisa Espectáculos adds, “Juan Gabriel presents some improvement … He’s in a better mood and for now he will remain in the hospital for a few more days. His return to the stages is still scheduled for May 1 in Los Angeles. For now that performance is not canceled.”
Several news outlets were reporting that Juan Gabriel had released a statement on his “official” website, saying he thanked everyone for their love and support, and that he was going to stay away from social media during his recovery, but his close friend and singer Aída Cuevas, who has been performing with him on this tour, repeatedly stressed on her Twitter account that Juan Gabriel does not use any social media. Cuevas sent a message on behalf of the legendary performer. “Good morning! Juan Gabriel thanks everyone for their concerns and says: ‘Before being Juan Gabriel I’m humble and thankful.’”
She later went on to add, “And a quick reminder that the Maestro Juan Gabriel doesn’t have any social media accounts!” With that said, we wish Juan Gabriel a speedy recovery and hope to see him soon on stage!
