"Toy Story" just got a lot more adult and a lot scarier. On Thursday night, a man dressed as Woody from the Pixar film was arrested in Times Square on multiple sex charges. Jose Vasquez, 44, was arrested by two plainclothes NYPD detectives - while still in his Woody costume. Vasquez was then taken to the Midtwon North precinct at approximately 8 p.m. According to the International Business Times, Vasquez allegedly assaulted "numerous girls" in Times Square.
A top tourist destination, Times Square is filled with people dressed as famous characters who pose in pictures for tips from tourists. However, recently this activity has taken on a dark and disturbing turn. In April last year, In April 2013, a man dressed as Cookie Monster from "Sesame Street" was arrested after he allegedly pushed a 2-year-old-boy because his mother did not tip him quickly enough, reports WNBC. Character 'actors' are known for being highly aggressive when it comes to demanding tips.
Vasquez' arrest come on the back of a long line of Times Square characters facing legal action. Last February, a man dressed as Spider-Man was arrested for allegedly punching a 44-year-old woman after she refused to give him a tip. Meanwhile a Times Square "Elmo" character was arrested back in 2012 for shouting anti-semitic slurs.
