Jose Serrano is 10 years old. He lives in Ciudad Juarez, one of the most dangerous cities in Mexico. As the Daily Mail reports, he also has an enormous tumor growing in his neck which stretches across his chest. The tumor could threaten the young boy's life as cysts can grow on his lungs, impairing his ability to breathe. Doctors are desperate to operate on Serrano, however, the tumor is currently too big and thus they are turning to help from an unlikely source: the anti-impotence drug Viagra.
Jose Serrano suffers from lymphangioma, a rare condition which causes malformed growth in the lymphatic system. Serrano's condition is worsening, however, surgeons are unable to operate on such a large growth. As such, the 10-year-old has been prescribed Viagra by doctors as it has been shown to reduce growths in children. He said: 'If the doctors can cure me I will be so happy. I would be thrilled. I would be healthy and I'd be able to do anything I want. I could run fast, play on the swings and rings - anything I want.'
Serrano was discovered by missionaries from the First Baptist Church of Rio Rancho, near Albuquerque, New Mexico. They put Jose's family in touch with the University of New Mexico Children's Hospital, who are now helping to fund the expensive treatment. "Now I have much more hope," said Jose. "I just want to be able to play and have fun." Serrano's story is part of a new series on the UK's TLC called "Body Bizarre."
