José Canseco Accused Of Rape; Names Alleged Victim In Twitter

Former Major League Baseball star Jose Canseco wrote on Twitter today that he was being accused of rape in a flurry of posts in which he also named the accuser and her work address, and posted photos of her. All of the posts naming the accuser except one have since been deleted.

The Las Vegas Police Department considers him a suspect in connection with a reported sexual assault, though no charges have yet been filed in an ongoing investigation.

The Associated Press reported today that Canseco, 48, a resident of Las Vegas was being investigated after a woman alleged that he had sexually assaulted her. News of the investigation became public after Canseco took to Twitter.

"Breaking news this is a first folks las vegas police was just at my house I have been charged with rape" Canseco wrote in a post which has since been deleted. The post also named the accuser.

Three minutes later, he wrote, "All media welcome to this drama filled event. Did I rape [the accuser] or is she lieing. Stay tuned to another day in the life of jose canseco."

One minute later, he added, "I think we should start this off with a polygraph exam just to get the ball rolling."

Canseco is a former All-Star MLB player and 1988 American League MVP. Mainly known as a slugger with the Oakland Athletics, he played for several other major league teams over the course of his career, during which he hit 462 home runs. In 2005 he published a book "Juiced: Wild Times, Rampant 'Roids, Smash Hits and How Baseball Got Big" in which he admitted to using anabolic steroids as a big-leaguer and named a slew of other MLB athletes as fellow users.

Since retiring in 2001, he has appeared on several reality television shows and is now a columnist for Vice magazine.

Canseco left Las Vegas this afternoon for Texas, where he will join the minor league Fort Worth Cats as player and coach for the team's first home games of the 2013 season. His identical twin, Ozzie Canseco, manages the Edinburg Roadrunners, one of the Cats' Northern League opponents.
