Fusion is a new cable and digital network launched last fall as a joint venture between Univision and ABC. It is aimed at Millenials with a focus on English-dominant Latinos. To make the launch smoother, they requested the help of veteran news anchor Jorge Ramos, who was given his own space, a nightly newscast called “America.”

However, due to Ramos’ other commitments with Univision, he found himself juggling his other two shows with this new venture. He sat down with Fusion and finally got to an agreement that would benefit both parts. Jorge’s show would be turned into a weekly news magazine airing on Tuesdays, instead of five days a week.

“Jorge Ramos has repeatedly helped Fusion break through to affect the national dialogue over the past several months and we are thrilled that he will continue to bring his signature brand of journalism to our viewers in the years ahead,” said Isaac Lee, Fusion CEO in a statement.

Lee added, in a staff memo, that Fusion wants Jorge’s impact be even more powerful by “focusing on more in-depth reporting and field pieces,” and that’s why “America” will become a weekly news magazine. The show, which will continue to be led by Dax Tejera and his team, will premiere in its new format on Tuesday, March 18 at 10:00 p.m. and will have a primetime encore on Friday nights.

The deal Ramos and Fusion penned will have the famous Mexican journalist and news anchor working for the network throughout the presidential elections in 2016.
