LOS ANGELES – It was Lakers Night at Chavez Ravine on Tuesday and NBA All-Rookie First Team point guard Jordan Clarkson was on hand to throw out the ceremonial first pitch and talk a little basketball during the summer.

Clarkson sat down with Latin Times Sports Editor, Michael Duarte to dish on the first pitch and the upcoming season.

"I'm a little nervous because I don't do this every day, I don't practice this every day," Clarkson said about throwing out the ceremonial first pitch. "I used to play ball in the streets and stuff like that, throwing around balls and breaking windows just like that."

Clarkson of course didn't want to repeat the poor performances by teammate Nick Young, and the legendary first pitch by rapper 50 cent in New York last season.

Clarkson figures to be the focal point of the Lakers offense this season as the team looks to build around its young nucleus. One of the most decorated franchises in NBA history drafted D'Angelo Russell with the second overall pick in the 2015 Draft, and should have their 2014 pick, Julius Randle healthy this season.

In addition to Randle, Russell and Clarkson, the Lakers signed free agents Brandon Bass and 2014 Sixth Man of the Year Lou Williams. The team also traded for Indiana Pacers center Roy Hibbert. The new-look Lakers may not be the juggernaut that Los Angeles sports fans have come to know and love, but they look good enough that Lakers legend Kobe Bryant believes they will make the playoffs as he returns for his 20th and final season.

When asked about Kobe's prediction, Clarkson backed up his teammate.

"Of course, why would we count ourselves out from making the playoffs?" He said rhetorically. "Every NBA team wants to play in the postseason.

"We got a lot of young guys, including myself. We just got to put it together and work hard. It's not going to happen right out of the jump. It's going to be a day-by-day process for us."

Clarkson is set to have a superb sophomore season with the Lakers, but first the 23-year old walked calmly on to the mound in front of 40,000 fans and threw a perfect strike to Dodgers' catcher A.J. Ellis. Leave it to a point guard, to deliver the perfect pass.
