Jo Jo Nicolas, the former University of Miami football player, has died in hospital just one day after a violent car accident on the MacArthur Causeway yesterday. His brother spoke to the press outside Jackson Memorial Hospital shortly after 8 p.m. on Wednesday. The Causeway was shutdown following the accident for several hours on Tuesday - Nicolas was rushed to the hospital. It had been stated earlier that he was in a stable condition, however, he died as a result of his injuries on Wednesday afternoon.
Jo Jo Nicolas played for the Hurricanes as a defensive line back from 2007 to 2011. His coach, Al Golden, visite Nicolas in hospital on Tuesday morning. He released the following statement: “During this extremely difficult time for JoJo and his family our Miami family extends our prayers to them and our hope for his recovery.” The cause of the deadly accident has yet to be determined: Nicolas was driving a gray Lexus when he crashed into the back of a tractor.
Nicolas had evidently been partying just before the crash, celebrating his birthday at Mansion Nightclub. "Kickin off the bday turn up week at Mansion with my brotha,” wrote Nicolas on Instagram shortly before the crash at around 2 a.m. He also posted a photo of himself at the club on Instagram. Nicolas had joined the New York Giants in May 2012 as a rookie, but was dropped by August. His death has come as a shock to many supporters in the football community.
