Happy now and happy hence and happy ever after!
Great news for broadway lovers, and movie lovers, and Johnny Depp lovers, and Meryl Streep lovers, and just anyone who enjoys great actors, amazing performances, getting overly excited and bursting into singing, and Disney's fairy tale magic. Oh yes, It's happening!
A little over a year ago, Disney announced that it was going to produce Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's masterpiece "Into the Woods", but no words on who the leading actors would be. Now we have an idea of what they're looking for. And we're loving it!
Johnny Depp and Meryl Streep are just a signature away of joining director Rob Marshall, who has already worked with Depp in "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" and David Krane, who's working on the music and has also collaborated in "Nine" and "Chicago".
In case you're a little skeptical about the actors joining the project (although, we're talking about Hollywood royalty!), you should remember that Meryl Streep showed off her pipes in Mamma Mia, and Johnny Depp has some Sondheim training of his own, being the star of the movie adaptation of "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" opposite Helena Bonham-Carter.
Don't you just love how this casting is going?
In "Into the Woods" we see multiple fairytales characters that at some point collide in the same space and the same story, creating a new plot and finally getting their "they lived happily ever after" ending.
A childless baker (the role that Depp is being cast in) and his wife attempt to lift a family curse by following the steps that the witch (guess who?) suggested. He goes into the woods where he meets characters like Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, Jack, and more.
If this casting selection has us all going crazy, we can't wait until Disney releases the names that will be joining Depp and Streep in this project. We're thinking maybe Amanda Seyfried as Rapunzel and Kat Dennings as Little Red (please, God, let her be good at singing!).
Have you seen the musical? Who do you think should play the parts? Are you excited that this incredible duo is joining forces in this project?
