A Florida teenager was arrested on Monday after he allegedly tried to strangle a jogger, who managed to defend himself from the assailant using martial arts, in a deliberate attack to kill the victim and fulfill the suspect's sexual desires, according to local police.

Logan Smith, 18, has been charged with attempted murder, accused of attacking a man who regularly runs past his Cocoa, Florida residence, an arrest report from the Brevard County Sheriff's Office reveals.

Authorities said the suspect hid behind a light pole and intentionally waited for the jogger to pass by his driveway. Perfectly timing his attack, Smith then chased his victim after spotting him with his earphones on. He would toss the belt of a robe around the man’s neck and apply pressure, according to People.

"The defendant proceeded to pull the ligature tight around the victim's neck for several seconds which caused visible physical injury to the victim," the arrest affidavit states. "The victim was pulled from a running stance to an immediate stop."

Fortunately, the jogger had knowledge of martial arts and used what he learned from training to defend himself. Soon after, cops arrived at the scene to detain Smith.

In an interview with authorities, the victim, who was not identified, recalled jogging in the area "about 4 times a week" but that he had never seen or spoken to his attacker prior to the incident. He would also tell authorities that the pressure [of the robe belt] was enough to restrict his blood flow.

Meanwhile, Smith confessed that he intended to kill his victim, sparked by his desire "to fulfill his sexual fantasies” after being exposed to several movies, including “Scream,” which portray “very violent acts of murder and other homicidal scenes,” the affidavit states per the Independent.

“He further planned to place the victim’s body into his closet where the defendant stated no one would know, and the defendant could have the victim’s body all to himself,” the arrest report stated.

According to police, Smith first spotted his target about six weeks prior and studied the jogger’s exercise routine and running route. The suspect would detail his plotting attack, where he would have used a rubber mallet to hit his victim and an aerosol Axe deodorant to impair his vision.

Due to front court on Feb. 10, the 18-year-old is being held without bond at the Brevard County Jail, according to the New York Post.
