President Joe Biden attended a tree-planting ceremony on the South Lawn of the White House on Monday after which he looked lost in the woods.
In honor of groundskeeper Dale Haney’s 50 years of working at the White House, the 79-year-old President and First Lady Jill Biden had planted a tree, reported New York Post. Joe then walked off into the garden. Then he turned around and asked, “Where are we going?”
Off camera, staff members were heard telling the baffled President how to get back inside the White House. Joe appeared to ask at one point what if he wanted "to go that way?” Someone responded off camera saying that he can "go that way if you want.” Another staff member assured him saying that he can do whatever he wants. Biden appeared to joke when he said, “Yeah, I notice how much freedom I have." Then he joined his wife and started walking in the right direction.
The Bidens also made brief remarks about Haney, reported CNN. Jill said that Haney is “one of the most beloved people here … taking such loving care of the grass and flowers.” The White House said the event that involved planting a tree was a surprise to Haney. Joe talked about the young elm tree he, his wife and Haney shoveled dirt onto with ceremonial gold-plated shovels. The President said that the tree they were planting "has a life expectancy between 175 to 200 years."
Meanwhile, in his latest verbal slip-up, on Monday Joe called Vice President Kamala Harris a “great President” while wishing her a happy birthday, reported New York Post. It happened during an event at the White House while celebrating Diwali, which is an important Hindu festival. At the event, Joe also recognized Harris’ recent birthday, which falls on Oct. 20. Forgetting Harris' official title, Joe said, “Happy birthday to a great President."
The error was mocked by many, with Clay Travis, founder of OutKick, saying that Joe just wished "Kamala Harris a happy birthday and said she’s a great President. I can’t believe I’m giving Democrats advice, but hide him in his beach house." He added whenever the President "speaks the red wave gets higher."
It was just last week when Joe, who turns 80 next month, appeared lost and confused after delivering a speech in Pittsburgh. He spun around on stage and searched for the exit. After finding it, he hustled off stage. He appeared to mumble to himself in the process.
