The judge on the case against David Lee Simpson has ordered that attorneys make a deal with the accused on the charges that he made death threats on Twitter against the two TV commentators who were covering the Jodi Arias murder trial, abc15 reports. Simpson appeared in court on Wednesday in Phoenix, Arizona over charges he threatened Nancy Grace and Jane Velez-Mitchell via social media site Twitter. Grace and Velez-Mitchell, hosts on Turner Broadcasting's HLN network, were identified as the victims of Simpson's threats in July this year.
Simpson was apparently infatuated with Arias and was upset with HLN's coverage of the story. Investigators also allege that Simpson has also made death threats to another unnamed Arizona woman. Simpson, 48, has pleaded not guilty to the charges. He is currently in talks with prosecutors to avoid the trial, set for November 21. The judge is pushing both parties towards an agreement. In other news, Arias herself took to Twitter recently to announce that she is filing for bankruptcy: "I'm filing for bankruptcy (if I can ever afford to do so.)"
Jodi Arias, 33, was convicted of murdering her ex-boyfriend Travis Alexander. She was convicted by a court in Phoenix on May 8. The jury failed to agree on Arias' sentence -- she remains in custody. Arias has tweeted she may be considering a plea deal. She will meet with prosecutors to discuss a settlement on October 24.
