As trial watchers wait eagerly for the next phase of sentencing for Jodi Arias they can tide themselves over with the Saturday June, 22 premiere of Lifetime's new original movie, "Jodi Arias: Dirty Little Secret."

The Lifetime movie will follow Jodi Arias and Travis Alexandre through the pathway of their tumultuous relationship ending with Jodi going on trial for her life after murdering her one time lover.

The film is directed by veteran TV crime director Jace Alexander (no relation to the victim). The "Jodi Arias: Dirty Little Secret" director has over 10-years' experience directing TV drama shows including "Law and Order."

Alexander spoke with lohud.com about why he wanted to direct this film and why he refused to speak with Jodi Arias during production.

When lohud.com asked Alexander why he wanted to direct the film, Alexander said he was drawn in by the relationship between Jodi and Travis. He said he wanted to give the audience a taste of how these two individuals met and how their relationship went so horribly wrong.

This is a movie about the relationship between the two main people in the story, Jodi Arias and Travis Alexander, and that's what brought me in ... this is not a courtroom drama. We focus exclusively on their meeting and the development of the relationship and why it all went so terribly wrong. Of course, we're using a lot of the facts that came out in the trial, but to a greater degree, we're using our imagination to fill in the scenes that no one knows exactly what happened ... I think what the audience is going to get is just a really fascinating, tense, disturbing look at how two young people created a situation that spun out of control.

Jace Alexander said he did not want to speak with Jodi Arias during the film's production because he did not want to tell the story from her perspective or from her side. Using evidence brought to light during the trial Alexander hopes to come as close to what actually happened as possible.

We're telling this story through the eyes of Jodi and Travis. And we wouldn't get an honest and grounded appraisal of their actions from them. They're too biased. Also, she was on trial and his family - I wanted to keep a distance out of respect. No family should ever have to go through what either of these families went through, especially Travis' family. That being said, it's not our job to call anybody a monster or judge their actions. The fact is we don't know why she did what she did. My personal opinion is I don't think she knows why she did what she did. I think she was so obsessed and so deeply in love that she was completely blinded by rage and jealousy that she lost her mind.

The truth is only Jodi Arias really knows why she killed Travis Alexander. Arias claimed self-defense but jurors had a hard time believing a gunshot wound, 27 stab wounds and slice against the throat that nearly decapitated the victim were all done in self-defense.

When she was first found guilty Jodi Arias practically begged for the death penalty saying to the media, to her death meant freedom and she would rather have her freedom sooner than later. In a sudden turn around Arias went before the jury that would decide if she lives or dies begging them to spare her life. Arias claims that wanted the jury to spare her so her family would not be put through any more pain.

When Arias was first questioned and arrested by police she stated flat out that she did not kill Travis Alexander. Following her arrest Arias changed her story from, she didn't do it to intruders did it to she did it out of self-defense.

It took the jury 15-hours to decide whether or not Jodi Arias was guilty but they could not agree on the death sentence. The trial jury was dismissed and a new jury will be given the opportunity to review the evidence and make a decision about Arias future.
