According to Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzmán lawyers, the drug lord is having auditory hallucinations and his health is getting worse. Attorneys sent a motion to Judge Brian Cogan demanding the end to his isolation and to allow the visits from his wife, Emma Coronel Aispurov, 27, mother of his twin daughters.
As reported by Mexican newspaper Zocalo, "El Chapo” is completely isolated with no natural light, and without notion of time. For the same reason, the defense asked Judge Cogan that his client be transferred to a jail with other prisoners.
The Sinaloa Cartel leader is following his isolation at the Manhattan Correctional Center (MCC). Lawyers Michelle Gelernt and Michael Schneider commented on how "much more extreme” the facility is compared to Mexico. "The physical and mental health of Mr. Guzman has deteriorated more since his arrival in the United States," said the Attorneys in a 24-page motion they sent.
"El Chapo," 59, "has difficulty breathing and suffers from a sore throat and headaches. He has recently experienced auditory hallucinations, complaining that he listens to music in his cell even when his radio is off," they wrote.
Guzmán Loera has pleaded not guilty to the 17 counts of which he is accused by the U.S. justice, which includes having run one of the largest drug empires in the Americas, and has complained several times for the mistreatment, claiming he can't sleep more than two consecutives hours and that even water is being denied.
