Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán’s team of lawyers and wife Emma Coronel continue to make a case on the Sinaloa Cartel leader’s conditions in prison.

According to El Diario, Coronel visited the drug lord earlier this week and was shocked to find out that her husband is still being abused, and his health issues are not being taken seriously.

Due to this aggravating situation, “El Chapo’s” lawyer, Andrés Granados Flores, announced that an Inter-American Commission on Human Rights representative has been asked to inspect his client’s environment at Cefereso No.9 to make sure his rights are not being violated.

Before “El Chapo” was moved to Ciudad Juárez’s penitentiary, ranked as one of the worst federal prisons in Mexico, reports revealed that he was suffering from high blood pressure and gastritis and needed constant medical attention.

During an interview with Radio Fórmula’s Ciro Gómez Leyva, the former beauty queen responded to critics implying she is trying to make the kingpin look like a victim.

“What victimizing? I’m not interested in any sort of campaign,” she declared. “It is true that he is sick, and if anyone can prove that we are lying, I’ll apologize gladly.”

GIEI (Grupo Interdisciplinario de Expertos Independientes) experts recently criticized the Mexican Government’s ways of obtaining information and accused the system of using torture and violating human rights to get results.

“I think there is an alarming situation, without a doubt, regarding two topic we documented in our reports: forced disappearance and torture,” Claudia Paz replied when Jorge Ramos asked if human rights are being violated in Mexico. “In our case, we documented 17 suspects had suffered from injuries after they were detained, and were still in custody.”

It has been nearly a month since the infamous drug lord was transferred to Cerefeso No.9. Recent images of him have not been revealed.
