“Hustlers” film’s real-life Ramona thinks that Cardi B could have been a better Ramona than Jennifer Lopez. Samantha Barbash, the stripper turned entrepreneur who was portrayed by Lopez in the film, got around to see “Hustlers” on Saturday evening, and she utterly said that she wasn’t that impressed with Lopez’s portrayal of her.
Barbash explained that while she found Jennifer Lopez incredible, how the film portrayed her character was not factual on many levels. “I wasn’t really that impressed,” she said. “I was impressed with Jennifer. She was incredible. Her body looked incredible. She had it down to a T, but it wasn’t factual,” she added.
The real-life Ramona said that Lopez failed to capture her mannerisms in the film despite having some of her distinct features. “She had my birthmark that I have,” she said.
“I used to have a piercing on the top of my lip. She had it on the bottom. she had a tattoo on her finger. I had it on my wrist. But her mannerisms? No. I am nothing like that in person,” she added.
The entrepreneur went on to contend that she’s more charismatic in real life than how Lopez portrayed her in the film. “As an actress, when you portray somebody, you are supposed to get to know somebody to portray their mannerisms,” she said.
Despite being not totally satisfied with Lopez’s portrayal of her, Barbash said that she wouldn’t hesitate to accept a phone call from Lopez. Barbash said that she would still tell the actress that she’s phenomenal and looked phenomenal in the film and she’s still a J.Lo fan since she’s also a Bronx native like Lopez.
Asked who she thinks would have portrayed her well in “Hustlers,” she said that it’s Cardi B, who briefly appeared in the film. Barbash explained that while Cardi B is not an actress, the fact that she was once a stripper could have been of great help to the production.
“Even though she is not an actress, she was in the strip club world and she gets it,” she said. “She would have maybe played a better me. Not taking away from Jennifer. But just because Cardi was in the business,” she added.
