Jennifer Lopez reveals that she was homeless in the August 2013 issue of W Magazine. W Magazine

Jennifer Lopez looks stunning on the cover of W magazine, but even more shocking than her beautiful photo shoot was the intimate interview in which the singer revealed, "I have a lot of stamina-I was built for the long run."

In 2013, the 43-year-old singer is worth a reported $250 million but Lopez told W, that she was "homeless" as a teenager. When she was 18, Lopez recalled a time when she has to sleep on a sofa in her dance studio after getting into a blowout argument with her mother, Guadalupe Rodriguez, due to Lopez's career choices.

Lopez says while she had great dreams of pursuing a career in show business, her parents did not approve, therefore she moved out of their home at the tender age of 18 to follow her dreams. Now as a Grammy Award winning singer, it seems that Lopez made the right choice, although her career path was not also easy.

"My mom and I butted heads," she tells the magazine. "I didn't want to go to college, I wanted to try dance full-time. So she and I had a break." Lopez then decided to break out on her own in pursuit of her dance career. She then turned the sofa in her dance studio her home, "I was homeless," says the mother of twins, but she continues, "I told her, this is what I have to do."

Fortunately for Lopez, and due to her talents, only a few months after becoming "homeless," she landed her first job. "A few months later, I landed a job dancing in Europe," she says. "When I got back, I booked "In Living Color," I became a Fly Girl and moved to L.A. It all happened in a year."

And while she was thrilled that her career had finally taken off, Lopez was not so thrilled with her new surroundings. "I hated L.A.,' she says. "I was asking, where's the store for milk? Don't you guys walk on the street?" Being a girl who grew up in the Bronx, New York, Lopez admits that while she is now fond of LA, she will always be "Jenny From The Block." Lopez explains, "Now I love Los Angeles, but it doesn't give me strength the way the Bronx did. All the strength that I needed for life, I got from that neighborhood."

But now that "Jenny From the Block" is a mother herself. Lopez explains that she has a lot to teach to 5-year-old twins, Max and Emme, she aspires to be a good example, and wants to teach them about good work ethic. "I think a lot about teaching my kids to work hard. I've learned something about kids, they don't do what you say; they do what you do."

And Lopez says that she learned from her parents the value about good work ethic. "I watched my parents. My dad worked nights, and I was aware of how much he was doing for us. My mom was a Tupperware lady and also worked at the school. I always felt that I couldn't let them down. And I had a natural discipline from early on. I was always training for something."

Fortunately for Lopez her choice to leave her Bronx home, sleep on a sofa and pursue her dreams has paid off. With records sales of 75 million and a cumulative film gross of over $2 billion, she is regarded as the most influential Hispanic performers in the United States.
