Jennifer Lopez is unhappy after Ben Affleck publicly blamed his drinking problems on his ex-wife, Jennifer Garner. The "Gone Girl" star claimed that he felt "stuck" in his marriage with Garner, which was one of the reasons he began drinking.
When Affleck spoke about his failing marriage and alcohol addiction in an interview on "The Howard Stern Show," he broke an agreement the couple had made. "Jennifer is Livid," a source close to Lopez told Radar Online.
"They both agreed that they wouldn’t talk about their private lives in any depth after what happened last time they were together," the insider added. "It was all carefully planned that they would do pix together but that’s all."
"At events the press is told ‘no questions about JLO and Ben. Only questions about the film. Now he shot off his big mouth and dragged her into it," the source went on to add.
Lopez also said that she had meticulously planned to merge her family with Affleck's, which included his children and ex-wife Jennifer Garner. From 2005 through 2015, Affleck and Garner were married and have three children: Violet, 16, Seraphina, 12, and Samuel, nine. Lopez is the mother of 13-year-old twins Max and Emme, who she shares with her ex-husband, musician Marc Anthony.
"[Lopez] is pissed. She is getting pulled into this because she is dating him. She doesn’t want to be dragged into this," another source told Page Six. "She has met Jennifer Garner. She is trying to get to know her and Ben’s kids," the source revealed, adding, "It’s reckless and cavalier of him."
Lopez and Affleck began dating in 2002. In 2003, the pair chose to postpone their wedding just one day before it was to take place, claiming overwhelming media scrutiny as the reason. According to ELLE, the couple called off their engagement and dissolved their relationship in early 2004.
In mid-2004, Affleck and Garner began dating and married in 2005. The couple announced their separation in 2015 and filed for divorce in 2017 after ten years of marriage and three children.
During his conversation with Stern, Affleck, 49, revealed that if he were married to Garner, he would "probably still be drinking." The actor, who has battled alcoholism for years and has been many rehab sessions, said: "It's part of why I started drinking … because I was trapped."
"I was like 'I can't leave 'cause of my kids, but I'm not happy, what do I do?' What I did was drink a bottle of scotch and fall asleep on the couch, which turned out not to be the solution."
