Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony are officially divorced. The pair first announced their split in July 2011 after seven years of marriage, releasing a joint statement saying, "This was a very difficult decision. We have come to an amicable conclusion on all matters." Although the couple had been living separately since 2011, it was on April 9, 2012 that Marc officially filed to be granted a divorce. He asked for joint custody of his and JLo’s children, twins Max and Emme.
Jennifer followed in December 2013 and filed a response in court, also requesting for joint custody and that the court legally changed her name from Jennifer Muñiz (Marc Anthony’s real name is Marco Antonio Muñiz) back to Jennifer Lopez. According to E!, the split was finalized for all intents and purposes in March 2014, but due to court backlog the final judgment package was not entered into the system until now. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge John Sandoz granted the divorce on Monday, June 16.
Both Marc and JLo were granted joint legal custody of their 6-year old twins, but Jennifer will be the primary caregiver and Marc will have them for seven days each month with the presence of a nanny. Both kids will also enjoy double Halloween, as they get to go trick-or-treating separately with their parents. A major clause in their divorce settlement was the safety of Max and Emme. Both singers agreed to do whatever they can to shield their children from paparazzi and reporters.
The judgment states both parents recognize "that exposing the children to public spectacle and failing to shield the children from aggressive news organizations, photographers, etc. is not the children's best interest." The singers also agreed that no child or spousal support was necessary. This was JLo’s third marriage, previously tying the knot to Ojani Noa in 1997 and Cris Judd in 2001. As for Marc, this was his second marriage after being married to former Miss Universe Dayanara Torres in 2000.
