The internet is flooded with reports that claim that Jennifer Lopez has been taking Spanish lessons. Several websites have carried the report that says how Lopez is embarrassed of the fact that she knows so little of the language, considering she’s one of the biggest Latin stars in Hollywood.

“She knows very little and it’s embarrassing,” a source informed In Touch last week. “She’s one of the biggest Latin stars in the world and is currently promoting Hustlers on Spanish-speaking talk shows, yet her command of the language stinks! She wants to take some lessons or at least download an app that will expand her vocabulary,” added the source.

However, as per a report on Gossip Cop, this piece of news is entirely false. The website carried an article clarifying that although English has always been Lopez’s first language since she was born to Puerto Rican immigrant parents, she has recorded several albums in Spanish. Not just that, but the popular singer has also given interviews with Spanish media speaking the language.

In the past, though, JLo has herself admitted that her Spanish isn’t that great so she’d be uncomfortable doing a Spanish movie. “For me it has always been difficult,” Lopez said at a press conference earlier in March this year. “Over the years it has improved a little, but to act one should have a command over the language, and since I have to think a lot when speaking in Spanish, I would not be good actress.”

“I don’t think I could get it right because I have to think about the words a lot and if you can’t dominate it, it’s difficult,” explained the singer-actress. “I would not act well in Spanish.”

To get clarity about the rumors floating around, the outlet directly got in touch with one of Lopez’s spokespersons, who completely debunked the story. To clear the air, the individual denied all such reports that claimed that Lopez was taking Spanish lessons, and neither is she referring to any apps to improve her language.

This isn’t the first time that JLo has been under the scanner for not being able to speak Spanish “fluently.” “Another controversy came up in the Latin press about the fact that I didn’t speak very good Spanish — which Selena [Quintanilla] didn’t either,” Lopez said about being criticized for not being “Latina enough” to play Selena in the self-titled 1997 film.
