The Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Science, known for being an honorary membership organization dedicated to the advancement of the arts and sciences of motion pictures and recognizing its members' achievements every year at the "Academy Awards," now officially known as "The Oscars," has released the list of 276 artists and executives invited to join.
Those who accept the invitations will be the only additions to the Academy's membership in 2013.
"These individuals are among the best filmmakers working in the industry today," said Academy President Hawk Koch. "Their talent and creativity have captured the imagination of audiences worldwide, and I am proud to welcome each of them to the Academy."
Actors, cinematographers, costume designers, designers, directors, documentaries, executives, film editors, make up stylists and hairstylists, members-at-large, music, producers, public relations, short films, feature animation, sound, visual effects, writers and associates are the categories where the people invited fall under.
Latinos have an important presence on the list, nabbing a third of the invitations on the actor's category. Renown names such as Jennifer Lopez, Danny Trejo and Rosario Dawson made the list. Lopez was invited for her performance in "What to expect when you're expecting" and "Selena," while Trejo was honored with the invite for his work in "Machete" and "Heat." Dawson grabbed hers for "Rent" and "Frank Miller's Sin City."
Joining them are City of Hope's Miriam Colón, Under Fire's Alma Martínez, Crash's Michael Peña and Mulholland Drive's Geno Silva.
