People have been pitting Jennifer Aniston against Angelina Jolie ever since Brad Pitt divorced the “Friends” star in favor of the “Maleficent” actress. Apparently, the drama hasn’t died down to this day as a recent report seems to suggest the Aniston might have indirectly attacked her former rival by dissing on Marvel movies.
The latest buzz came from Globe Magazine which published an article hinting that Aniston’s comment about Marvel films is a veiled attack on Jolie herself, according to Gossip Cop. The report stated that the “Friends” actress never had any problems with action-fantasy films before so it’s a bit surprising to find her “slamming” those movies now.
“Jen’s never cared about these action-packed fantasy movies before, but all of a sudden she’s slamming them just when Angie begins filming her first Marvel movie,” Globe quoted an unnamed source.
Globe’s article was referring to Aniston’s response to a question posed by Variety in an interview last month. The actress was asked what made her decide to return to TV and she responded by saying that streaming services paved the way for the production of high-quality content while the big screen is being ruled by “big Marvel movies.”
Unfortunately, Globe interpreted the statement as an attack on Jolie. “Jennifer Aniston's sudden blast against big-budget Marvel movies was actually a nasty sneak ambush on career and romance rival Angelina Jolie!” the publication wrote.
By quoting a supposed source, Globe made it appear that Aniston is bent on getting revenge on Jolie for taking Pitt away from her.
“Angie’s new movie sucked,” Globe quoted its rather questionable source. “She hates Angie more than ever for stealing [Brad Pitt] and then splitting from him. To Jen, it feels like Angie broke her heart for no good reason, and she’s determined to make her pay.”
However, the fact-checking site Gossip Cop did not buy into Globe’s narrative. According to the site, Aniston was simply responding to a question thrown her way during Variety’s interview. In addition, her response never mentioned Jolie specifically nor hew new movie “Eternals.”
Gossip Cop contacted Aniston’s spokesperson to confirm if there was some truth to Globe’s claims. However, the actress’ rep “dismissed the tabloid’s report as nonsense.”
Aniston’s spokesperson also emphasized that her comment about Marvel movies is not an attack specifically directed at Jolie. The rep also stated that Aniston never bashed “Maleficent 2” because she’s busy with her own projects.
